This kilo silver issue belongs to a wave of large-format collector coins produced for Pacific island nations almost entirely for the European and Asian novelty markets — the Solomon Islands issuing authority functions here essentially as a licensing vehicle, with design, production, and distribution handled entirely offshore. The H. C. Andersen theme was a reliable commercial choice by 2018, with Andersen's 1835 debut publication Fairy Tales Told for Children long in the public domain and therefore cheap to exploit.
Andersen was Danish, and Denmark has never been shy about monetizing him — the Danish mint has issued Andersen commemoratives for decades. A Solomon Islands kilo coin bearing his stories operates at considerable geographic remove from that tradition.
