Obverse description Right-facing crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II after the third portrait by Raphael David Maklouf, depicting the Queen wearing the George IV State Diadem, drop earrings, and a pearl necklace. The legend QUEEN ELIZABETH II arcs along the upper periphery, while the lower field bears the inscriptions 1 OZ, 9999, GOLD, TUVALU, and the date 2009 distributed around the bust. The engraver's initials RDM appear incuse in the lower right of the truncation. The coin is struck in highly polished proof finish.

Reverse description The reverse features a full-color depiction of Kitarō, the supernatural hero from Shigeru Mizuki's manga series GeGeGe no Kitarō, shown in dynamic pose riding atop his ghostly companion Neko-musume's transformed form, one arm outstretched toward the viewer. The character is rendered in his iconic blue-and-yellow vest with a single eyeball on his head; colorful spirit flames in orange and blue are scattered throughout the field. To the right, Mizuki's artistic seal appears in black. The legend GEGEGE NO KITARO 40th ANNIVERSARY arcs along the upper and right periphery, with the denomination $100 at the base flanked by decorative scrollwork, and the copyright mark ©M·F·T at lower right.
