| Beschrijving keerzijde | A finely detailed high-relief scene depicting Saints Cyril and Methodius standing prominently in the upper centre of the field: Cyril, bearded, holds an unfurled scroll inscribed with Glagolitic characters, while Methodius, mitred and robed as an archbishop, holds a patriarchal cross-staff in his right hand and gestures with his left. Four Slavic figures surround them below, rendered in attitudes of reverent reception, their hands raised toward the apostles in acknowledgement of the gift of literacy. Decorative Glagolitic-inspired ornamental chains flank the composition on either side. The names CYRIL and METOD appear in the left and right fields respectively, with the engraver's initials AD visible in the lower field. |
