The legend 'ELIZABETH II D·G·REGINA' arcs along the upper periphery of the coin. The effigy captures the Queen at approximately 77 years of age, rendered in fine relief against a matte field. The design follows the standard Royal Canadian Mint obverse format adopted in 2003. |

Part of the RCM's ongoing Wildlife series, this issue belongs to a program that has consistently sold out on release, driven largely by the American bullion market rather than domestic demand. The cougar — extirpated from most of eastern Canada by the early twentieth century — remains a contentious wildlife subject; Environment Canada's designation of the eastern cougar as extinct in 2018 added retrospective weight to its appearance in this series.
