Obverse description Right-facing crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, wearing the George IV State Diadem and a pearl necklace, rendered in high relief against a deeply mirrored proof field. The legend CAYMAN ISLANDS arcs along the left periphery, ELIZABETH II along the right, and the date 1988 appears in the lower exergue. The portrait is consistent with the fourth definitive effigy of the Queen as designed by Raphael Maklouf.

Reverse description A central vignette depicts Christopher Columbus standing above a detailed rendering of the Santa Maria under full sail, approaching a coastline symbolic of the New World discovery. The composition commemorates the quincentenary of Columbus's 1492 voyage. The denomination 100 DOLLARS is inscribed in the lower portion of the field, while the commemorative legend arcs around the periphery. The design is executed in fine relief against a polished proof background.
