| 背面描述 | A stylised arm rising from the lower field holds aloft an Olympic torch, the flames of which are artistically rendered to form the silhouettes of mountain peaks, evoking the Canadian Rocky Mountains associated with the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics. The denomination 100 DOLLARS appears in the lower exergue. The city name CALGARY and the Olympic year 1988 are inscribed prominently within the field, affirming the commemorative purpose of the issue. |

Issued to mark the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics, this gold piece was released a full year ahead of the Games as part of a ten-coin program spanning 1985 through 1988. The .5833 fineness is an unusual alloy choice — 14-karat gold rather than the more common .900 or .999 standards used by most Olympic commemorative programs of the period — driven by a deliberate Royal Canadian Mint decision to keep the coin accessible to a broader buying public while maintaining a gold product.
Two die varieties exist, catalogued separately as RC-3112a and RC-3112b.
