Beschrijving voorzijde Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the George IV State Diadem, a pearl drop earring, and a necklace, after the third definitive portrait by Raphael David Maklouf. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the left rim and SOLOMON ISLANDS along the right rim, with the date 1992 positioned centrally in the lower field. Aanvullende informatie

The Battle of Guadalcanal, fought across the island chain's main island from August 1942 to February 1943, was the first major Allied offensive in the Pacific theater and cost both sides catastrophically — the U.S. Navy alone lost more tonnage there than in any other single campaign of the war. The Solomon Islands were not a bystander to this history; the fighting occurred on and around the very territory this coin commemorates.

Issued fifty years after the campaign, this is one of a wave of 1992 anniversary issues from Pacific nations marking the Guadalcanal centenary. The .999 fine specification places it squarely in the collector bullion category rather than anything intended for circulation.
