| Obverse description | Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, rendered in the fourth definitive portrait by engraver Ian Rank-Broadley, whose initials IRB appear below the truncation of the neck. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the left periphery and 100 DOLLARS along the upper right, with COOK ISLANDS descending along the right rim. The date 2014 is positioned in the lower field. | Reverse description | The reverse features a richly detailed composition commemorating the 80th birthday of Empress Michiko of Japan. A stylised ho-o (Japanese phoenix) with elaborately engraved plumage is depicted in the upper field, its outstretched wings framing a decorative chain motif. At the centre of the design, a radiant chrysanthemum — the imperial seal of Japan — is rendered in high relief. In the lower field, a bouquet of five fully bloomed roses with green foliage is applied in polychrome colour, surrounded by an ornamental vine border that encircles the entire reverse.
