Issued by the Perth Mint to coincide with the Sydney 2000 Olympics, this piece belongs to a broader program of commemorative gold released under licensing arrangements with the Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (SOCOG). The Perth Mint produced multiple denominations and compositions across the Olympic series, making individual identification by KM reference important — the 10g .999 gold proof issues are sometimes conflated with the heavier $100 pieces struck in .9167 alloy from the same campaign.
