| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse presents a finely detailed, high-relief depiction of a red kangaroo in a standing alert pose, facing right with forepaws raised, rendered with meticulous naturalistic detail in the field. Behind the kangaroo, a stylised sunset silhouette of a second smaller kangaroo is incused into a circular disc, evoking the Australian outback landscape. The legend 'AUSTRALIAN KANGAROO' arcs along the upper rim, while the inscription '2016 1oz 9999 GOLD' appears in the lower exergual area. The Perth Mint's 'P' mintmark is positioned to the right of the main kangaroo figure. The reverse was engraved by Ing Ing Jong. |

Perth Mint's high-relief gold proof program gained serious traction in the 2010s as competition from the Royal Canadian Mint's high-relief issues pushed Australian producers to refine their own relief-depth and polishing techniques. The 2016 kangaroo issue required multiple strikes under considerably higher pressure than standard proof production, a process that demands individually hand-fed planchets and accounts for the low mintage relative to the standard proof kangaroo series.
KM# 2445 falls under the fourth portrait of Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley, adopted by Australia in 1999.
