| Additional information |
The Desert Rose coin was part of the Royal Australian Mint's early 2000s push into themed gold bullion, positioning itself against the long-dominant Kangaroo series from the Perth Mint. The two mints operated under separate federal mandates, and the RAM's foray into collector bullion was a deliberate attempt to carve out market share in a sector Perth had effectively owned since 1987.
Mintage for this issue was tightly capped, and surviving examples rarely surface in the secondary market in original packaging.
