Additional information

The Australian Kangaroo gold bullion series launched in 1986 — originally under the "Nugget" branding, with gold nuggets as the reverse subject — before switching to kangaroo reverses in 1989. The 2014 issue marks 25 years of that kangaroo format specifically, not the full run of the series. Perth's decision to change the design annually, unlike the static reverses of the Krugerrand or Maple Leaf, was a deliberate strategy to attract collector premiums on top of bullion value — a model that proved influential across the industry.

The .9999 fineness adopted for this series exceeded the then-standard .999 of most competitors.
