This piece recreates the legendary "40 ducat" format — a tradition of massive gold presentation strikes that dates to Habsburg court gifts of the 16th and 17th centuries, where oversized multiples were minted not for circulation but as diplomatic tokens and royal largesse. The Czech Mint's revival of the format for the Přemyslid prince Bořivoj I, the first historically attested Bohemian ruler to convert to Christianity around 874 AD, anchors the piece in a specific political and ecclesiastical turning point in Bohemian history.
The Elizabeth II obverse reflects the coin's status as legal tender under Niue, a common arrangement Czech Mint uses to give bullion-adjacent collector issues a nominal issuing authority.
