Additional information

Issued to mark the 25th anniversary of Elizabeth II's coronation, this was part of a coordinated wave of commemorative gold struck by Commonwealth nations in 1978 — Jamaica among the more active participants in such programs during the Michael Manley years, a period of otherwise sharp tension between Kingston and London over economic policy and bauxite nationalization.

KM#77 was struck in a limited issue and saw negligible circulation. The .900 fineness follows the standard adopted across most Jamaican gold commemoratives of the decade rather than the .999 fine issues that would follow in later series.
