The Perth Mint's lunar series has run continuously since 1996, making 2026's Year of the Horse the third time the horse has appeared in the sequence — the first was 1990 under a separate predecessor program, the second in 2014. Each animal's return gives collectors a direct comparison point across series generations, and the compositional standard of .9999 fineness has been held consistently since the mint's bullion program formalized that benchmark in the 1980s.
Charles III's effigy appears here for one of the earlier lunar issues bearing his portrait, Ian Rank-Broadley's rendering of Elizabeth II having dominated the series for the better part of three decades.
