Australia's Koala gold series has run since 1980, but coloured proof strikes on .9999 fine gold blanks represent a technically demanding subset — the applied colour must survive without bonding agents that could compromise the declared fineness, a constraint that limits which pigment processes are viable at this weight class. This is also among the first Perth Mint Koala issues to carry the Charles III obverse, following the transition from Elizabeth II portraits that concluded across Australian coinage in 2023–2024.
