The Bank of China was founded in 1912 as the successor to the Qing dynasty's Ta-Ching Government Bank, making the 2017 centenary actually its 105th year — the note commemorates 100 years of the Bank of China's presence and operations specifically in Hong Kong, dating that milestone from 1917.
De La Rue's Gateshead facility, formerly the Bradbury Wilkinson plant, handled the printing. The security specification is relatively lean for a commemorative of this period — thread and watermark only, with no polymer substrate or optically variable ink, which was an unusual choice given that BOCHK's regular circulating issues had moved toward more layered security by this point.
