Additional information

The 2015 issue falls within the "Preamble" series, a six-year program in which each annual reverse design illustrated a different principle of the Constitution. The 2015 reverse was the fifth in that sequence, interpreting the concept of securing the blessings of liberty — chosen by a Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee process that drew more public engagement than nearly any previous Platinum Eagle reverse program.

Congress authorized the Platinum Eagle in 1996, making it the only platinum bullion coin issued under U.S. legal tender authority. Proof versions share the same KM designation but carry a distinct premium driven by the relatively low proof mintages — the 2015 proof saw fewer than 4,000 pieces struck.
