Obverse description The obverse is printed in red and olive-green tones, with the bold letterpress title "HONGKONG & SHANGHAI BANKING CORPORATION" across the upper portion, flanked by ornate guilloche borders and Chinese characters reading 香港上海滙豐銀行. Two intaglio vignettes appear in the lower left and right corners, each showing a harbour or waterfront scene, while the central text panel bears a promise-to-pay clause, the denomination "ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS" in a bold frame, the place and date "HONGKONG, 1st January, 1921", and two manuscript signatures above the printed titles of Chief Accountant and Chief Manager.
