The 2024 polymer issue marks a material shift for Brunei's highest-circulation large denomination — the sultanate had issued paper substrate 100-dollar notes through most of the modern series before transitioning to polymer for enhanced durability in a tropical climate where humidity degrades paper currency rapidly. Brunei and Singapore maintain a Currency Interchangeability Agreement dating to 1967, meaning this note circulates at par acceptance in both countries, an arrangement that has outlasted most such bilateral currency pacts globally.
