Opmerkingen

Bradbury Wilkinson's contract work for newly independent African states in the late 1970s and early 1980s was extensive, and São Tomé and Príncipe — independent from Portugal only since 1975 — was one of the smaller commissions. The Banco Nacional was itself a creature of independence, replacing Portuguese colonial financial infrastructure with a single-tier central bank that handled both commercial and monetary functions. The dobra, introduced in 1977, was pegged to the Portuguese escudo at par initially, though that arrangement eroded quickly under the pressures of a command economy reliant almost entirely on cocoa export revenue.

Bradbury Wilkinson closed in 1990 when De La Rue absorbed the operation, making all BW-printed issues from this period terminal — no later printings from the same house are possible.
