| Beschrijving voorzijde | Bare-headed effigy of King Hassan II facing left, rendered in high relief against a smooth field. Arabic legends arc along the left and right periphery, identifying the monarch by name and title. The portrait is naturalistically modelled, depicting the king in mature age with close-cropped hair. The entire design is enclosed within a prominent beaded border running the full circumference of the coin. |

Morocco's Rabat Mint — Monnaie de Rabat — opened in 1987, ending the country's longstanding dependence on foreign mints, particularly the Paris Mint, which had struck Moroccan coinage for much of the 20th century. This coin commemorates that transition directly: a state asserting domestic production capacity after decades of outsourcing its own currency.
Y#86 is not scarce in absolute terms, but examples with fully brilliant surfaces are harder to locate than mintage figures suggest — early runs from a newly commissioned facility occasionally show inconsistent die preparation.
