| Descripción del anverso | Central to the obverse is the denomination '١٠ دينار' (10 Dinar) displayed within a circular cartouche at the centre of the field. The Hijri date ١٤٠٠هـ and the Gregorian date ١٩٨٠م flank the cartouche to the left and right respectively. The legend 'الجمهورية العراقية' (Republic of Iraq) curves along the upper periphery in Arabic script. A commemorative inscription occupying the lower portion of the field reads 'لمناسبة مرور عام على تولي السيد الرئيس قيادة الحزب والثورة' (On the occasion of the first anniversary of the assumption by the President of the leadership of the Party and the Revolution), arranged in two curved lines following the inner border. |

Issued to commemorate the nationalization of the Iraqi oil industry, which Saddam Hussein completed in 1972 — a decade before this coin's striking. The 1980 date places it at the outbreak of the Iran-Iraq War, a conflict that would consume the country for eight years and ultimately devastate the economy that briefly made issues like this possible.
Mintage was extremely limited, struck primarily for diplomatic gifts and regime prestige rather than any commercial purpose.
