| 裏面の説明 | The reverse features the commemorative logo for the 15th Century of the Hijra calendar, composed of the Arabic numeral '15' artistically integrated with a depiction of the Kaaba in the centre-right and a minaret to the left, with a sweeping calligraphic flourish unifying the composition. Below the central motif, a Quranic verse from Surah Al-Anbiya (21:92) in ornate Arabic calligraphic script reads: 'Verily this Brotherhood of yours is a single Brotherhood.' The legend 'Al-Qarn 15 H.' (The 15th Century of Hijra) appears at lower left in Arabic, accompanied by the bilingual inscription '15th C.H.' in Latin script. |

Issued to commemorate the 1,400th anniversary of the Islamic Hijra calendar, this coin was produced under the Ba'athist government at a moment when Saddam Hussein — formally elevated to the presidency just the year before — was actively using state resources to project legitimacy both domestically and abroad. The Hijra anniversary provided a politically convenient framework for a regime keen to present itself as a guardian of Islamic heritage despite its secular foundations.
Iraq invaded Iran just months after this coin's release, and subsequent international sanctions effectively ended commemorative gold program continuity for years.
