| Obverse description | The Tunisian national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicted as a shield featuring a Phoenician galley above a stylized sea, with a lion passant and scales of justice in the lower quarters, surmounted by a crescent and star. The Arabic legend naming the issuing republic curves along the upper rim, while the denomination '100 دينار' is inscribed along the lower border in a combination of Western numerals and Arabic script. Decorative ornamental devices flank the shield on either side within the field. |

The "Coup d'état" designation here refers to the November 7, 1987 removal of Habib Bourguiba by Prime Minister Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, carried out without bloodshed under a constitutional provision declaring the president medically unfit to govern. Ben Ali's government consistently rebranded the event as a "Change" rather than a coup — the Arabic legend on this piece reflects that official framing. By 2002, Ben Ali had already secured a constitutional referendum extending his presidency and removing term limits, making this anniversary issue as much a tool of political consolidation as commemoration.
