Obverse description The Tunisian national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a quartered shield with a sailing ship in the upper section, scales of justice and a lion passant in the lower quarters, surmounted by a crescent and star. The circular Arabic legend reading 'الجمهورية التونسية' (The Tunisian Republic) runs along the upper periphery. The denomination '100 دينار' (100 Dinars) is inscribed at the base, flanked by decorative ornamental devices. The design is rendered in high relief against a finely textured field.

Reverse description The reverse features a stylized modernist composition commemorating the 12th Anniversary of the 7 November coup d'état. A large stylized numeral '2000' dominates the upper field, rendered in an elliptical orbital motif suggestive of a satellite or planet, with radiating lines emanating downward toward a ballot box in the lower field, symbolizing democratic progress. Scattered circular dots to the left represent a dynamic, forward-looking design. The engraver's name 'الفخفاخ' (El Fakhfakh) appears in the lower field, and the dual date '1999 - 1420' in Latin and Hijri numerals is inscribed at the base. The circular Arabic legend 'الذكرى الثانية عشر للسابع من نوفمبر' (12th Anniversary of the 7th of November) runs along the upper rim.

Additional information

This issue commemorates the twelfth anniversary of Zine El Abidine Ben Ali's November 7, 1987 seizure of power, when he removed the aging Habib Bourguiba from office through a medical coup, declaring the 84-year-old president mentally unfit to govern. Ben Ali's government minted anniversary issues regularly throughout the 1990s, and by 1999 the series had become an established vehicle for projecting regime legitimacy. The Arabic-legend variant was produced alongside a French-legend counterpart, distinguishing the two for different distribution purposes.
