Issued specifically to mark the bimillennial year, this note was Macedonia's first commemorative circulating banknote — an unusual choice, since most central banks reserve commemorative issues for coins. The design commission went to Biljana Unkovska, who had already shaped the visual identity of the Macedonian denar series from its post-independence inception in 1992.
Pick 20 circulated alongside the standard 100 Denar issue rather than replacing it, which kept quantities modest and withdrawal relatively swift.
