Thomas De La Rue printed the Gambia's higher denominations throughout this period under a long-running contract that also covered several other West African issuing authorities — the same London facility was simultaneously producing notes for neighbours including Sierra Leone and The Gambia's own smaller denominations in the same series. The 100 Dalasi sat at the top of the denomination ladder for most of this issue's active life, only displaced when inflationary pressure eventually made lower notes impractical for routine transactions.
The hologram strip on this series was a relatively late security upgrade for a currency of this size and economic weight — The Gambia's GDP per capita made it an unusual candidate for foil-based features more commonly reserved for higher-value regional currencies.
