| Reverse description | A dynamic figure of a football player in full stride occupies the central field, depicted in the act of kicking a football positioned at the lower portion of the design; the player wears a jersey inscribed 'VSR'. The date '1986' appears to the right of the figure in the mid-field. A continuous circumferential legend surrounds the design, reading 'GIẢI VÔ ĐỊCH BÓNG ĐÁ THẾ GIỚI LẦN THỨ XIII' along the upper arc and 'MÊ HI CÔ' along the lower arc, commemorating the 13th FIFA World Cup held in Mexico. |

| Additional information |
Vietnam issued this coin during a period when the country was still operating under the tập trung bao cấp subsidy system, a centrally planned economy so strained that hard currency was essentially theoretical for ordinary citizens. Commemorative silver issues of this period were produced almost exclusively for foreign exchange — sold abroad or to collectors through Vietraximex, the state export agency, never intended to circulate domestically.
Mexico 86 was the first World Cup held at altitude, and Vietnam had no qualifying team. The subject was chosen purely for international marketability.
