| Obverse description | Printed in shades of red-brown on a light underprint, the obverse bears a central circular vignette with a portrait of Marechal Floriano Peixoto in military uniform at right, set within a fine guilloche border. The P#195A belongs to a transitional period for Brazilian currency — the cruzeiro had been redenominated in 1967, knocking three zeros off the old cruzeiro to create a "new" cruzeiro, though by 1970 the government had quietly dropped the "new" designation as inflation began its long climb back. This note was printed domestically by Casa da Moeda throughout the 1970s as Brazil's military government expanded its economic development programs, which in turn accelerated the inflationary pressure that would eventually make the cruzeiro itself obsolete by 1986.
The watermark remains the sole security feature — a fairly thin barrier against counterfeiting even by 1974 standards, reflecting the era's assumptions about what denominations warranted protection.
