| Obverse description | A vertical sinuous outline bisects the field, separating the inscription and commemorative dates on the left from a stylized portrait of a child's head in right-facing profile on the right. To the left of the dividing line, the dates 1888 and 1988 are inscribed in two stacked lines at center, with the curved legend CENTENÁRIO DA ABOLIÇÃO running along the upper periphery. The word AXÉ appears in the lower right field, beneath the child's portrait. The overall design commemorates the centenary of the abolition of slavery in Brazil. |
