Banca Orașului Baia-Mare was a municipal bank operating in what had just become Romanian territory following the 1918 union of Transylvania with Romania. This 100 Coroane note was issued during the awkward transitional period when the old Austro-Hungarian Krone remained nominally in use while Romanian monetary authority was still being consolidated across the newly acquired regions. Local institutions issued their own emergency paper precisely because the supply of official currency from Bucharest was slow to reach peripheral towns.
Tip. Astra was a regional printer — the official stamp served as the primary authentication mechanism, typical of small-run municipal issues where sophisticated security printing was simply unavailable.
