Nicaragua's 1999 series was issued under relative monetary stability, a marked contrast to the hyperinflationary collapse of the late 1980s that had forced the Nicaraguan córdoba to be replaced altogether in 1988, and then redenominated again in 1991 at 5,000,000-to-one. By 1999, the Banco Central had rebuilt enough institutional credibility to commission Thomas De La Rue for a conventionally secured issue — watermark and thread only, no more elaborate features.
Pick 190 is common in circulated grades; uncirculated examples are not especially elusive.
