Opmerkingen

Pick 137 was issued in 1979, the year the Somoza government fell to the Sandinista revolution. The Banco Central had contracted Thomas De La Rue well before the July insurrection, meaning these notes were almost certainly printed and delivered under one regime but entered general circulation under another — a not uncommon awkwardness in Central American monetary history of that period.

The watermark is the sole security feature, which by 1979 was already considered minimal for a high-denomination note. De La Rue was capable of far more sophisticated security work at the time; the specification reflects the client's budget or procurement decisions, not the printer's limitations.
