The Banco Central de Reserva de El Salvador had maintained a long relationship with Thomas De La Rue by the time this series was produced, and the 100 Colones was the highest denomination in general circulation before dollarization ended the colón's practical life in 2001. Dollarization was officially complete by 2002, after which colón notes were redeemable at the fixed rate of 8.75 colones per US dollar.
