| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse is printed in blue and red on a white cotton paper ground. A large central vignette to the left occupies roughly half the face, portraying a seated allegorical female figure accompanied by a male figure, rendered in fine intaglio engraving. To the right, an ornate red guilloche rosette carries the numeral '100' as a counterprint, flanked by serial number fields printed in red. The date 'SAN SALVADOR 1º DE SEPTIEMBRE DE 1924' appears in the lower right area, with three manuscript signatures running along the lower margin identifying the Gerente, Presidente, and Cajero. |

Banco Occidental was one of several private Guatemalan banks of issue that lost their note-issuing authority when the Banco Central de Guatemala was established in 1926. This 100 Colones note, printed two years before that transition, belongs to the final active period of the old private banking system. The Colon itself was already a currency under pressure — Guatemala would formally shift monetary policy within years of this note's printing.
ABNC produced the plates in New York, as they did for much of Central American private banking paper of this period. The 100 Colones denomination would have been a high-value instrument in daily commercial use, not retail-level currency.
