Four Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu) are arranged in the cardinal positions around the central square hole, reading clockwise top-to-bottom as 永安一百 (Yong An Yi Bai, meaning 'Eternal Peace, One Hundred'). The fields are heavily corroded with encrusted patination consistent with iron coinage of the Five Dynasties period, and the coin exhibits the characteristic irregular flan typical of cast iron cash. |
