| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central square hole characteristic of Chinese cash coinage, surrounded by four Chinese characters arranged in cruciform fashion and read top-to-bottom, right-to-left in regular script (kaishu). The inscription 咸豐元寶 (Xianfeng Yuanbao) occupies the four cardinal positions around the central perforation, with 咸 at top, 寶 at bottom, 元 at right, and 豐 at left. The characters are rendered in bold, well-formed strokes within a plain, raised inner rim. The outer border is defined by a raised rim, and the field between the legends and the rim is plain. |
