Obverse description Central square hole flanked by four large Chinese characters in regular script (kaishu), arranged in the traditional cross reading: top to bottom and right to left. The inscription 咸豐通寶 (Xianfeng Tongbao) is rendered in bold, well-defined strokes filling the four quadrants of the coin's field. The casting is robust with clearly defined character forms typical of mid-19th century Qing dynasty cash coinage. The flat, undecorated field gives prominence to the calligraphic inscription.
