Bolivia's 2019 banknote series was conceived as a deliberate rebranding effort under the Morales government, replacing the earlier series that had featured colonial-era iconography with imagery drawn from indigenous history and pre-colonial geography. The three place names in the title — Padilla, Calatayud, and Sucre — reflect that same regional specificity; Sucre remains Bolivia's constitutional capital despite La Paz functioning as the seat of government, a dual-capital arrangement formalized in the 1899 constitution following the Federal War.

Oberthur Fiduciaire, operating out of Chantepie near Rennes, has handled Bolivian security printing for multiple series. The security specification here — watermark and thread only — is notably lean for a 100-unit denomination in a country that has issued notes with considerably more complex feature sets in the same period.
