Series 16 was introduced in 2015 as part of a broader security upgrade to Thailand's circulating notes, though the 100 Baht denomination had already seen incremental revisions across several Series 16 sub-issues. The watermark and embedded security thread were kept deliberately familiar to aid acceptance, while changes to the printing registration and tonal range of the intaglio work were the more substantive updates — visible mainly under magnification or oblique light.
The Bank of Thailand Note Printing Works has produced domestic currency in-house since 1969, making Thailand one of relatively few countries in the region with fully sovereign print production at this denomination level.
