Series 15 was the longest-running banknote series in Thai history, and the 100 Baht denomination was its workhorse — the note most likely to pass through a market stall, a taxi, a temple donation box. Type 2 within the series introduced revised security threading as Thailand's Note Printing Works responded to increasingly sophisticated counterfeiting pressure that had targeted the 100 Baht specifically during the late 1990s and early 2000s.
The Bank of Thailand brought full production in-house decades earlier, and by this issue the Bangkok facility had refined its cotton substrate sourcing to reduce the humidity-related brittleness that plagued earlier domestic printings.
