Issued to mark the 60th anniversary of the Thai Ministry of Finance, founded in 1875 under Rama V as part of a sweeping modernization of Siamese government administration. The commemorative program under Rama IX produced a substantial number of silver issues throughout the 1970s, many tied to institutional anniversaries rather than royal events — a deliberate policy that used the coinage program to reinforce the legitimacy of state institutions during a politically turbulent decade that included the October 1973 student uprising and its aftermath.
