Thailand has issued commemorative 100 Baht notes with some regularity since the 1990s, but the series honoring Rama IX — Bhumibol Adulyadej — carries particular weight given his status as the world's longest-reigning monarch at the time of issue. His 84th birthday fell on 5 December 2011, a date considered auspicious in Thai numerological tradition as it marks the completion of seven twelve-year zodiac cycles.
Printed in-house at the Bank of Thailand's own facility in Bangkok, which has operated since 1969. The security specification is modest for a commemorative — watermark and thread only, no color-shifting ink — suggesting this was intended for genuine circulation rather than collector presentation.
