The apsar is Abkhazia's commemorative currency, issued by a central bank of a state recognized by only a handful of UN members — Russia chief among them — following the 2008 South Ossetia war. These pieces are not legal tender in any practical sense and circulate exclusively among collectors; Georgian law still considers their issuance illegal within territory it regards as occupied.
