Reverse description Left of centre, a finely detailed bust of Pope John Paul II is depicted in three-quarter view, inclined slightly downward in a meditative posture, wearing the papal mitre and richly draped vestments adorned with an embroidered pectoral cross. To the upper left curves the legend JAN PAWEŁ II. In the right portion of the field, a detailed sculptural scene rendered in low relief depicts a Gothic altarpiece with multiple figures, evoking the Veit Stoss altar of Kraków's St. Mary's Basilica. The word PRÓBA (meaning 'trial' or 'pattern') appears in the upper right field, identifying this piece as a proof trial strike.
