Issued in the final months of communist Poland before the formal transition to the Third Polish Republic, this coin appeared as the zloty was in freefall — inflation peaked at roughly 586% in 1990, rendering a 100,000-złoty face value almost meaningless against everyday purchasing power. The National Bank was simultaneously preparing the redenomination that would eventually replace 10,000 old złotych with a single new złoty in 1995.
