The 100,000 Yuan Ox bullion issue is one of the largest standard gold coins produced by any sovereign mint — 10 kilograms of .999 fine gold struck at the China Gold Coin Corporation. China introduced these extreme-denomination lunar pieces partly as institutional prestige items and partly to anchor the high end of a tiered series that runs from small fractionals down to this format, ensuring the People's Bank maintains a presence across every collector price point.
At 180mm across, the planchet alone presents significant die pressure challenges. Achieving full surface contact at this scale requires hydraulic presses far exceeding those used for standard coinage.
