Obverse description The national coat of arms of Peru occupies the central field, depicting a quartered shield: the upper left canton in azure bears a vicuna symbolising the animal kingdom; the upper right canton in argent displays a cinchona tree representing the vegetable kingdom; and the lower half in gules features a golden cornucopia overflowing with coins denoting the mineral wealth of the nation. The shield is flanked by laurel and palm branches tied with a ribbon, and surmounted by a civic crown. The encircling legend and denomination appear on the obverse along with the issuing authority and gold fineness.
