Pfullendorf is a small market town in Baden, and its municipal government — like hundreds of others across Germany in 1923 — was forced into issuing its own emergency currency as the Reichsmark collapsed under hyperinflation. The 100,000 Mark denomination places this note in the mid-hyperinflation window, before denominations climbed into the billions and trillions by autumn of that year.

The engraver credit to Xav. Smilung of Meersburg is worth noting — Meersburg is a small lakeside town roughly 60 kilometers southwest of Pfullendorf, suggesting local production rather than any major printing house.
